Twelve year CFL veteran calls it a career
(Edmonton) Veteran Eskimo offensive guard Dan Comiskey has decided to hang up the cleats and shoulder pads after a celebrated 12-year CFL career.
Comiskey joined the Eskimos in 2002 and played three years with the Green and Gold without missing a single game. He was traded to Hamilton in April of 2005 playing in 13 games before being traded back to Edmonton to finish out the ’05 season. In 2006, Dan really developed as an offensive stalwart as he was named Rogers CFL Lineman of the Month for October, a West Division All-Star and a CFLPA All-Star and was named the Eskimo nominee for the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian. The Windsor, Ontario native suffered a couple of injuries in 2007 that allowed him to play in only 4 games that season. He returned to the field in 2008 but broke his ankle in the first regular season game in Saskatchewan. He returned to the line-up on September 21 and started in eight games, the East Semi-Final and the East final at left guard.
The University of Windsor product who began his CFL career in Saskatchewan after being selected in the 5th round (42nd overall) in the 1997 CFL Canadian College Draft, has appeared in four Grey Cups winning twice with Edmonton in 2003 and 2005. In 2003, Dan was the Eskimo nominee for the Tom Pate Award that recognizes players for their outstanding work in the community. He has been a stable presence in the community his entire CFL career and was named Honorary Chair for the Kidney Foundation in 2007.
"The highest compliment I can pay Dan Comiskey is that he is a winner, not just on the football field, but in all facets of his life," says Eskimo General Manager and Director of Football Operations Danny Maciocia. "As a player his talent and leadership qualities were second to none. As a person, Dan’s charitable efforts and commitment to our community set an example for all of us. The entire Edmonton Eskimo organization wishes Dan, Raina and their children, Jane, Lauren and Daniel the very best in the years to come."
Dan Comiskey says, "I would like to thank the Eskimo organization, my teammates, the fans and the city of Edmonton for embracing me and my family during our time here. I have nothing but fond memories of my entire CFL career, but my time as an Edmonton Eskimo was particularly special. Once an Eskimo, Always an Eskimo!"
